I built a rotating jig that allows me to more efficiently carve quarter scale seat blanks using a gouge, and a palm plane. I am currently working on a batch of ten miniatures for a customer. I screw the rotating jig to a mini-bench which I clamp on top of my work bench. The extra height allows me to work at a comfortable height. The rotating jig allows me to carve the seat blank from any angle without having to re-clamp the seat blank continuously.
One of my woodworking neighbors, Mark Donovan, made the palm plane shown in the photograph, which I use which to carve out the seat. Thank you Mark!
